Nottingham and Sherwood Forest

Nottingham
Brewhouse Yard Museum is set in a group of five 17th century cottages and shows life in Nottingham over the last 300 years. Rock Cottage houses a school room and toy shop of the 1930`s. In this area you will find some of the Castle Rock caves.
Walk up the hill over cobbles from the Robin Hood statue and turn left up to the castle.
There is a museum and art gallery and good views across the city. The collections are of glass, silver, ceramics and paintings. Beneath the castle are 1000 year old passageways to explore.( Mortimer's Hole Cave Tour). There is also a craft shop , cafe and playground. This was once one of the greatest castles in the land. For more than 600 years, Nottingham castle saw more than its share of Royal visits, political intrigue, military activity, sieges and murder. All the Kings of England from William the Conqueror to King Henry VIII stayed in the castle.
Opposite the Robin Hood Statue there is a small attractive cobbled street. Just round the corner opposite the statue there is also an attractive black and white medieval house which is the
Lace Centre . Lace is of course part of Nottingham's rich history.
The Galleries of Justice Museum is home to the Villainous Sheriff of Nottingham and is the only Museum of its kind in Europe. Based at Nottingham’s old county gaol the Museum portrays Nottingham’s horrible history and crime and punishment through the ages in a fun and interactive environment. Many tours are actor led making the Galleries of Justice Museum an excellent family friendly attraction and a perfect day out for all ages. You will witness and sometimes even be put on trial in the prestigious Victorian Court room before being sent down to our original prison cells, dungeons and caves where your sentence awaits you. There is even an original Police Station on site.
